TAKU, ORIN-STICK
A Minimal Presence That Defines the Contour of Sound
Shaped for a single note, with ornament held back. With use, it settles naturally into the hand, and year by year the sakura wood deepens into its characteristic tone. A refined form—born of deep respect for nature—linking the rhythm of everyday life.

Design
A Stripped-Back Form That Guides Harmony with Sound
The form, drawn from deep respect for the material and rigorous structural consideration, is remarkably restrained. Rather than adding decoration, we sharpened the structure so that the presence of the material—and the contour of a single note—can stand clearly in relief. One face of the TAKU is carved into a gentle curve. When you strike the TAKU with these curves aligned, two points meet, and a clear sound is born.Paired with the metal ORIN is an oORIN-stick made from Japanese sakura wood, chosen for its warmth. Its smooth feel in the hand and the delicate grain shaped by nature create a presence that settles quietly and naturally into any space.

Story
A Tool That Carries 120 Years of Craft—Made to Stay Close for a Long Time
Rooted in an aesthetic handed down since the Edo period, it gives form to beautiful natural wood through minimal structure and exceptional handwork. That quiet sculptural clarity is its defining character. Within it lives a spirit of respect for nature—and of minimalism. Backed by more than 120 years of steady work alongside Japan’s forests, the surface of the TAKU is finished with a traditional “kanna” hand-plane finish, allowing the true texture of the wood to be felt directly. Without losing sight of the essence of craft as times change, we face the material with sincerity and continue to refine technique without sparing effort. That stance gives rise to a TAKU and orin-stick that grow more familiar with every use. A product that becomes deeply cherished in daily life—aging with you through the years.

Culture
When Sound Becomes a Marker of Time
In Japan, sound has long created boundaries in time—guiding gesture and awareness into the next state. For example, before clocks became common, the bells of temples signaled the shifts of morning and evening, shaping the rhythm of daily life. Not a spoken cue, but a single note that switches us into “here and now”—a culture that quietly steadies the rhythm of the mind through sound. TAKU and ORIN, too, are tools that bring a gentle boundary to everyday time. The purpose is not to make sound for its own sake, but to use sound as a cue—an embodied signal that lets the next gesture begin.

Sustainability
Receiving the Life of Wood, and Nurturing It Through Long Use
A diversity of flourishing trees has long supported human life and the tools we rely on. To live with gratitude—recognizing that living trees grow, and their gifts become the tools of our everyday. Traditional tools born from nearby forests are themselves part of Japanese culture, joining people and nature. Time spent touching wood recalls a deeper connection with the natural world—one we may have nearly forgotten. At its heart is a simple intention: to give thanks for what trees provide, and to use that gift fully, without waste. With each touch in daily life, the material gains depth—growing into an irreplaceable tool.
To keep using wood with care, for a long time, is also a practice that leads toward a richer future—one that links nature’s gifts and human life.

Ritual / NEZEN LIFE
Guided by Nature’s Warmth, Into a Comfortable Resonance
At night, begin with the TAKU—placing a single note as a boundary of transition, from activity into stillness. The warmth of wood felt at the fingertips, and a dry kan as it sounds, becomes a preparation that calms the mind. Next, take the ORIN-STICK and let the ORIN resonate. As the wood’s aftertone meets the ORIN’s clear ring, a lucid resonance quietly fills the space.
The overtones soften and fade, and the mind naturally comes into order. In that moment, a generous margin of “space” is born within you. In the morning, begin with the orin. Then a single strike of the TAKU—moving lightly from stillness into activity.
