Ritual of stillness
Through fragrance, light, and sound
The Practice of Stillness

WAROUSOKU
Light a Japanese candle.
Step away from the brightness of artificial light. Spend a moment watching the quiet flicker of the flame. Your gaze, and your awareness, gradually settle. Burn time is approximately 20 minutes. If wax or ash soils the holder, warm it gently with hot water and wipe it clean.

KOH
Light incense.
As the fragrance spreads through the room, your breath begins to soften, little by little. Burn time is approximately 30 minutes. By breaking the incense, you can adjust the burn time to suit your preference.

TAKU
Strike the wooden clapper.
A single sound creates a subtle boundary - a quiet punctuation at the close of the day. One side of TAKU has a gentle curve. Hold it lightly and strike the curved surfaces together at a slight angle to produce a clear, resonant sound.

ORIN
Sound the rin bell.
Let it resonate slowly, four times. As the tone lingers in the air and gently fades, the stillness that follows begins to calm the heart. Gently strike the outer body of ORIN with the ORIN-STRIKER to release a soft, resonant tone. Striking ORIN from above may cause damage; please avoid doing so.
After confirming that the incense and candle have fully settled, carry only the lingering quiet with you as you make your way to bed.
